Red top tubes are NOT the specimen of choice.  Please contact Blood Bank concerning samples collected in these tubes.


Instructions
"Cord Blood" must be stamped or written on specimens labeled with the Mother's label. Special Blood Bank Identification process is NOT required for Cord Blood testing.  DAT testing should be performed within 48 hours of collection.  When sample is greater than 48 hours old, a result comment is added to the result to state sample exceeds recommended age.

Routine results are available in less than 4 hrs.

Clinical Significance
A Positive Direct Antiglobulin Test result will be called to the caregiver.
For positive results, elution studies may be performed to identify the antibody involved at the Physician's request. Contact the Blood Bank.
