Preferred Specimen
5 mL whole blood collected in an EDTA (lavender-top) tube
Minimum Volume
1 mL
Instructions
Please note: If only normal Hemoglobins are detected, the results will be reported within 24 hours. However, if any abnormal Hemoglobins are present that require additional testing, turnaround time may take as long as 5 days.
Specimens for Hemoglobin by HPLC are stable for 7 days at refrigerator temperature. However, if Hemogram is needed for accurate interpretation, the Hemogram portion is only stable for 3 days from the time of collection at refrigerator temperature.
