Clinical Significance
This highly sensitive, direct radioimmunoassay system is based on the use of a highly purified, stable preparation of 125I labeled Thyroglobulin. The assay is standardized against the MRC Thyroglobulin Auto-antibody First International Reference Preparation (Coded 65/93). Measurement of thyroglobulin auto-antibodies can be of considerable value in the diagnosis of thyroid diseases,
such as autoimmune thyroiditis, Graves' disease, endemic goiter and subacute thyroiditis. These measurements when used as part of a thyroid autoimmune diagnostic profile, which would include Anti Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody and Thyrotropin Receptor antibody, can be very useful in the differential diagnosis and management of thyroid disease. TgAb is always to be run in conjunction with Thyroglobulin (Tg) sera in order to conform to NACB guidelines (Thyroid 13:1, 2003).
