Clinical Significance
Legionella can cause a broad clinical spectrum of disease, ranging fom asymptomatic infection to rapidly progressing pneumonia. Legionellosis is a CDC notifiable disease and is associated with two clinically and epidemiologically distinct illnesses: (1) Legionnaire's disease, which is characterized by fever, myalgia, cough, and pneumonia and (2) Pontiac fever, a milder illness without pneumonia.
