Preferred Specimen
Pinworm paddle consisting of a clear plastic spatula with adhesive on one side.  If this product is unavailable, use the following items:
a piece of 2-2.5cm wide clear cellulose Scotch tape(not the invisible kind), microscope slide.


Instructions
Press without smearing onto the folds of the perianal area.
Collect specimen first thing in the morning.

Clinical Significance
Diagnosis of pinworm infestation is based on the observation of typical thick walled, football shaped eggs. The eggs are usually deposited around the anus and are not commonly seen in feces.
