Clinical Significance
Cryptosporidium and Giardia are recognized as two of the most frequent causes of parasitic intestinal disease. Both organisms are found throughout the world and transmission is usually through the ingestion of contaminated food or water. Cryptosporidium can also be contracted directly via fecal-oral contamination.
