Instructions
Must be drawn with a 21-gauge or larger needle.
Drawn at YH only and sent to PRH
The specimen needs to be in the Portsmouth Regional Hospital Laboratory within 2 hours from the time of draw.

Obtain collection kit from the Laboratory.

Specimen Stability
Room temperature: 4 hours
Refrigerated: Unacceptable
Frozen: Unacceptable


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Any tube other than the Blue Vacuette tube.
Hematocrit < 29% or > 56%
Platelet Count < 92.0 K/uL
Specimen not held at room temperature

Reference Range
Test results are reported in Aspirin Reaction Units (ARU).
     350-549 ARU - therapeutic range for platelet function
     550-700 ARU - NON-therapeutic range for platelet function


Clinical Significance
The test determines whether platelet dysfunction consistent with aspirin has been detected.
