Clinical Significance
CSF glucose is measured to detect increased glucose usage by the central nervous system indicating the presence of white blood cells or microorganisms. CSF glucose is increased with hyperglycemia or traumatic puncture. Causes of decreased CSF glucose include hypoglycemia, meningitis, inflammation, and tumors.
