Instructions

  • Urethral (female): Collect at least 1 hour after patient has urinated. Remove old exudates from urethral orifice. Collect discharge material on swab.
  • Vaginal: Wipe away any excess secretions. Swab mucosa high in vaginal canal with a swab.
  • Urethral (male): Wipe exudate from urethral orifice and massage urethra with sterile swab. If discharge cannot be obtained, insert a small swab at least 2-4cm into the urethral lumen, rotate the swab, and leave it in place for at least 2 seconds to facilitate absorption before removing.
  • Bartholin cyst or gland secretions: Disinfect skin with iodine. Anaerobic culture is recommended for this specimen type. Collect using a Port-a-Cul anaerobic transport system or collect at least 1.0mL fluid (recommended).
  • Endometrial tissue or secretions: Collect transcervical aspirate via telescoping catheter. Anaerobic culture is recommended for this specimen type. Transfer specimen to a Port-a-Cul anaerobic transport system or collect at least 1.0mL fluid (recommended).
