Patient Preparation
Avoid seafood consumption 48 hours prior to collection.


Instructions
Avoid worksite collection.
Test performed on a specimen submitted in a nontrace element tube/container (not acid-washed) may not accurately reflect the patient's level. If a nontrace element tube/container is received, it will be accepted for testing; however, elevated results are reported with a message that submission with a trace element tube/container is recommended.

Limitations
Seafood may increase urinary arsenic. This test may not rule out arsenic if spot levels are normal.


Clinical Significance
Arsenic is widely distributed in the earth's crust. Arsenic is used in some pesticides and industrial applications. Arsenic toxicity can cause skin changes, respiratory illness, nausea and vomiting, and other effects.
