Collect several milliliters of CSF in sterile container.  If less fluid is collected, as little as 0.5 ml  can be adequately processed for cytology. 




Instructions


Place the order in Meditech.   Provide required essential information that includes pertinent clinical history (blank, "none" or "N/A" are not acceptable).    A manual Pathology Specimen Request form can be used when you do not have access to a computer and/or during downtime.  Immediately deliver the specimen to the laboratory upon collection.  These specimens should be processed the same day collected.

CSF is not a physiologic medium and cellular degeneration proceeds rapidly. It is pertinent that these specimens are submitted to the laborartory ASAP.
