Acid-Fast Bacilli Blood Culture with AFB Sensitivity

Test Code

If positive for Mycobacterium, this test progresses to an identification at an additional charge. If the isolate is identified as MTB, MTB Complex, or MAI, or other AFB, then sensitivity testing will be performed at an additional charge.

Preferred Specimen
5 mL whole blood or bone marrow inoculated into a Bactec® Myco/F Lytic aerobic blood bottle

Minimum Volume
1 mL

Bactec® Myco/F Lytic aerobic blood bottle is the only acceptable container type.
