Preferred Specimen
Unfixed washing done with sterile balanced salt solution or saline.
Minimum Volume
Any volume can be evaluated, but the following are recommended:
Bronchial Wash: At least 10mL
Body Cavity: At least 50mL
Bronchial Wash: At least 10mL
Body Cavity: At least 50mL
Instructions
Repetitive instillation of the physiologic solution followed by recovery and submission to Cytology Laboratory.
Transport Container
Sterile specimen container with lid.
Transport Temperature
Room temperature. Refrigerate if transport to laboratory will be delayed.
Methodology
Liquid based slide preparation and cell block if specimen permits.
Setup Schedule
Daily, Monday through Friday.
