Preferred Specimen
Fresh urine obtained by:
  1. Void (clean catch)
  2. Catheter
  3. Surgical Procedure such as aspiration


Minimum Volume
Any volume can be evaluated.  50 to 100ml is optimal.


Instructions

Voided urines should be collected midstream (clean catch) to minimize perineal or genital tract contamination. 
Specify collection type (void, catheter, aspirated, etc) on the requisition.




Transport Container
Sterile urine cup.


Transport Temperature


Deliver to lab immediately.  Refrigerate as soon as possible after collection.




Methodology
Liquid based slide preparation.

Setup Schedule
Monday through Friday.
