Evaluation of urine color, clarity, Specific Gravity,  glucose, bilirubin, ketones, blood, pH, protein, Urobilinogen, nitrite, and
leukocyte esterase.  A sediment will be reflexed and performed if any of the following are positive/abnormal:  clarity, blood, protein, nitrite or leukocyte esterase.


Preferred Specimen


First voided, clean catch urine

2 mL


Instructions
Refrigerate if not immediately sent to the Hematology laboratory.

Room Temperature:  stable for 1 hour
Refrigerated:  6 hours




Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
QNS,  too old for testing (>6 hours old)

Samples not refrigerated if testing is delayed may have false positve nitrite and changes in pH due to bacterial growth (contamination)
