Methodology
Hgb F stain

Setup Schedule
Results available daily on day shift by 11 AM.  If the sample is received after 9 am,  the test will be performed the following day by 11 AM.


Limitations
Patients with HPFH give false positive results


Reference Range
< 4 non-eluted cells/1000 RBC


Clinical Significance
Evalutate Fetal-maternal hemorrhage. Determines the number of fetal (hemoglobin F) Red cells in the maternal circulation.
In an Rh negative mother,  this test is used to evaluate the amount of RhoGam to be administered to prevent possible Rh antibody formation.
