Patients with HPFH give false positive results

Clinical Significance
Evalutate Fetal-maternal hemorrhage. Determines the number of fetal (hemoglobin F) Red cells in the maternal circulation.
In an Rh negative mother, this test is used to evaluate the amount of RhoGam to be administered to prevent possible Rh antibody formation.
