1.8  or 2.7 mL (depending on tube size).  Sample MUST be drawn to minimum fill line on tube or the sample will be rejected as QNS.


Instructions
to prevent QNS sample draws:  If the sodium citrate tube is the only sample to be collected with a butterfly collection device, draw a discard tube OR collect after drawing other samples.

Limitations


No interference up to 2 U/mL of heparin, 375 mg/dL of hemoglobin, 880 mg/dL of triglycerides, and 23 mg/dL of bilirubin.
Fibrinogen levels over 700 mg/dL are reported out as >700.

Clinical Significance
Used to evaluate the coagulation status of the bleeding patient and disease states such as DIC, liver disease, inflammatory diseases and malignancies.
