CPT Codes

Preferred Specimen
Plasma from green top (PST) tube
Minimum Volume
1 mL
Instructions
Centrifuge within 3 hours of collection.
Liquid anticoagulants may have a dilution effect resulting in lower concentrations for individual patient specimens.
Plasma: Centrifuge according to tube manufacturer’s specifications to remove platelets and ensure proper separation of plasma from blood cells. Frozen specimens must be completely thawed before mixing. Mix thawed specimens thoroughly. Visually inspect thawed specimens. If layering or stratification is observed, mix until specimens are visibly homogeneous. If specimens are not mixed thoroughly, inconsistent results may be obtained.
NOTE: Stored specimens must be inspected for particulates. If present, mix and centrifuge the specimen to remove particulates prior to testing.

Transport Container
Green Top (PST) tube
Transport Temperature
Room temperature
Specimen Stability
2 - 8 oC: 7 days
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Liquid anticoagulants may have a dilution effect resulting in lower concentrations for individual patient specimens.
For accurate results, plasma specimens should be free of fibrin, platelets, and red blood cells, and other particulate matter. Ensure centrifugation is adequate to remove platelets.
