Includes Pap Test only.  Ancillary testing from the ThinPrep Vial include HPV and Chlamydia/Gonorrhea testing. 
High Risk HPV (14 genotype test) is ordered from the PAP vial via two methods:
1.  ASC-US Reflex:  HPV testing is only performed if the cells on the pap test are interpreted as "Atypical Squamous Cells of Undetermined Significance (ASC-US).
2.  Screening HPV:  Clinicians may order HPV testing as a screening test for patients >30 years or if there is any other clinical reason to do so. The test will be performed regardless of PAP interpretation. 

NOTE:  Further HPV testing specific to genotypes 16, 18/45 can be ordered and performed if initial HPV test is positive.


Preferred Specimen
Ectocervical, endocervical or vaginal specimens.


Patient Preparation
If lubricant is needed, use a dime sized amount of "SURGILUBE" brand lubricant.  Other lubricants can affect the specimen and cause unsatisfactory results. 
Avoid collection during heavy menstruation.  Clear as much blood/mucous from the cervix as possible prior to collection.

ThinPrep GYN specimen collection vial provided by Cytology Laboratory. Collection devices (broom or brush/spatula) also provided.

3-5 working days for "Negative" paps
5-7 working days for "Abnormal" paps


Reference Range

Submitting clinician will be contacted by email for the following "critical results"

  1. High Grade Squamous Intraepitheliai Lesion in a patient without previous abnormal results
  2. Atypical Glandular Cells (AGC), favor neoplastic or AIS
  3. Positive for Malignancy
  4. Herpes or Trichomonas in pap smear of pregnant patients
