Room temperature

Specimen Stability
Samples are stable for 15 days at room temperature, 30 days if stored at 2-8°C.

Methodology
The OC-Auto Micro 80 Fecal Occult Blood test is an immunological assay that determines the presence of human hemoglobin in a fecal sample.  Latex reagent, prepared by sensitizing anti-human HbA0 antibodies to polystyrene latex particles is mixed with sample.  The antibodies react with hemoglobin in the sample, resulting in a latex agglutination reaction.  The reaction is analyzed for changes in optical density, with the amount of change increasing in proportion to higher concentrations of hemoglobin.

Setup Schedule
Tuesday and Friday,  after 5 pm.

Limitations
No dietary restrictions or medication interferences

Reference Range

Negative

Clinical Significance
This test is intended for the qualititative detection of fecal occult blood (human hemoglobin).  The test is useful for the determination of gastrointestinal bleeding, found in a number of GI disorders, e.g. colrectal cancer, colitis, and polyps. This test does not offer conclusive evidence of a GI pathology; it is only intended for preliminary screening.
