Limitations
Whole blood is the sample of choice for testing. Due to the complexity of myeloid differentiation in the bone marrow,  the interpretation of results may be misleading.

Clinical Significance


In PNH, since the PIG-1 mutation is present at the stem cell level,  all cell lines may be affected,  showing
reduced or absent expression of glycophosphatidylinositol (GPI)
