P2Y12 Reactivity
MessagePart of the PLTRS Panel.
Performed in the Hematology Laboratory x5475, 76.
Sample MUST be drawn to minimum fill line on tube. Do not place on ice.
Test Code
P2Y12
Preferred Specimen
whole blood
Minimum Volume
2.7 mL sodium citrate blue top tube
Transport Container
2.7 mL sodium citrate blue top tube
Transport Temperature
Room Temperature
Specimen Stability
Room Temperature: 4 hours
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
QNS, clotted, if the specimen is spun in a centrifuge, if the specimen is placed on ice
Methodology
light transmittance/optical density
Setup Schedule
As needed, Monday through Friday 8am - 4pm
Limitations
GP IIb/IIIa inhibitors will interfere with the test. Cilostazol may also affect the test results.
Reference Range
194 - 418 PRU (P2Y12 reactive units)
>230 indicates minimal platelet inhibition is present; risk of peri-operative bleeding is decreased.
>194 is indicative of a decreased response to P2Y12 inhibitors and may represent insufficient platelet inhibition.
<194 is associated with effective platelet inhibition
>230 indicates minimal platelet inhibition is present; risk of peri-operative bleeding is decreased.
>194 is indicative of a decreased response to P2Y12 inhibitors and may represent insufficient platelet inhibition.
<194 is associated with effective platelet inhibition
Clinical Significance
The Test is used to measure platelet reactivity for patient's taking P2Y12 inhibitors (Such as Plavix and Effient)
