Minimum Volume
2.7 mL sodium citrate tubes. Sample MUST be drawn to minimum fill line on tube or the sample will be rejected as QNS.


Instructions
If drawn with other coagulation assays: For up to 3 tests draw 2, 2.7 mL sodium citrate tubes. For 4 or more coagulation tests, draw 3, 2.7 mL sodium citrate tubes.

Refrigerator Stability: 4 hours
Plasma is stable for 6 months frozen at -70 degrees C.

Limitations


Results are not affected by hemoglobin up to 500 mg/dL, bilirubin up to 18 mg/dL, triglycerides up to 1280 mg/dL, and rheumatoid factor up to 500 IU/mL.

Clinical Significance
FXIII is essential for maintaining hemostasis due to its role in fibrin stabilization and in the protection of fibrin from proteolytic degradation. This assay helps to detect any FXIII deficiencies in a bleeding patient.
