Limitations
When negative cardiolipin titers are found in the presence of clinical indications, additional testing for lupus
anticoagulants is indicated. Confirmed or active seropositive syphilis patients will have elevated ACA levels. Confirmatory procedures must be performed to rule out syphilis. Anticardiolipin antibodies can occur transiently during infections. Patients testing positive should be retested at a later date. Rheumatoid factor can interfere with the determination of IgM ACA.
