Instructions
Breast specimens are extremely time sensitive and must be given special attention. Labeled container and a completed requisition which includes a time stamp stating when the tissue was removed/obtained must be hand delivered as a priority. Specimens requiring Radiologic Examination are transported by OR Staff to and from Radiology.
RUSH specimens must be clearly marked as such on the requisition and must be delivered directly to Ziskind 5. For weekend or after hours RUSH specimens, the Anatomic Pathology resident on call should be notiifed at pager 1420.

Specimen Stability
Time from specimen removal to processing in Pathology must be minimized. All necessary measures should be employed to keep time to a minimum to avoid degradation of tissue.
