Proper specimen collection and transport are important criteria for the recovery of anaerobes. Specimen source is required.

Improper transport container, superficial wounds, ulcers or decubiti, swabs from the urethra, vaginal, rectum, sputum, urine, stool or gastric contents.

Culture with gram stain
Reference Range
Negative Anaerobes recovered will be forwarded to the reference laboratory for Identification and susceptibility testing
Clinical Significance
Useful for the detection of anaerobic bacteria from a specimen not normally colonized by anaerobes. Must use Anaerobic transport system. Specify Source.
