Clinical Significance
Digoxin is a digitalis glycoside that exerts a positive inotropic effect that subsequently increases the contractile response of the myocardial fibers in patients experiencing  heart failure. It is used to treat congestive heart failure abd atriall dysrhythmias.  Digoxin levels are monitored to assure adequate therapeutic levels are achieved and to avoid toxocity.
