Cholride, random urine
Test CodeUCL
CPT Codes
82436
Preferred Specimen
10 mL random urine
Transport Container
Plastic urine container.
Transport Temperature
Refrigerate.
Methodology
Ion-Selective Electrode (ISE) Potentiometric
Reference Range
16-250 mmol/L
Clinical Significance
Urine chloride excretion approximates the dietary intake. The chloride content of most foods parallels that of sodium. An increase ine urine chloride may result from water deficient dehydration, diabetic acidosis, Addison's Disease, and salt-losing renal disease. Decreased chloride urine levels are seen in congestive heart failure, severe diaphoresis abd in hypochloremic metabolic alkalosis due to prolonged vomiting.
