Preferred Specimen
10 mL of freshly voided, clean catch, midstream urine. Centrifuge at 2000 rpm for 5 minutes. Concentrate the urine by spining it and then make a slide out of the sediment. Dry and stain.

Clinical Significance
Useful for determining drug induced acute interstitial nephritis, eosinophilic cystitis, atheroembolic renal disease and schistosomiasis. Urinary eosinophilia has been associated with gloverulonephritis, acute prostatitis and acute cystitis as well as rejection of renal allografts.
