1.0 mL Na Heparin plasma
Instructions
Draw blood in a green-top(lithium or sodium heparin tube). Immediately place specimen on ice. Spin down and remove plasma from cells within 15 minutes of draw. Send 1.0 mL of lithium or sodium heprain plasma on ice.

Clinical Significance
Ammonia is a waste product of protein catabolism, which is potentially toxic to the central nervous system. Increased levels are found in patients with impaired hepatic function.
