Instructions
The blood sample must be neither coagulated nor hemolyzed.


Transport Container
Lavender Top (EDTA) Tube


Transport Temperature
Ambient 4-6 hours; Refrigerated 48 hours


Specimen Stability
Specimen must arrive within 4-6 hours of draw at ambient temperature or 48 hours at refrigerated temperature allowing it to return to room temperature before testing.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Clotted, QNS, hemolyzed or outside of acceptable time frame.


Methodology
The Roller 20PN measures the kinetics of red blood cell aggregation by capillary photometry or optical density.

Limitations
If and when the roller 20 PN is not working the Westergren Sedimat 15 minute would be utilized. 


Reference Range
Males
0-12 years: 1-10 mm/hour
>13 years: 0-15 mm/hour

Females
0-12 years: 0-10 mm/hour
>13 years: 0-20 mm/hour


Clinical Significance
Useful for inflammation and necrosis
