Culture, Urine Catheter
MessageIf positive, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility will be performed at an additional charge. Unless the specimen is being collected to monitor the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy, it must be collected prior to administration of antibotics. Most antibiotics concentrate in the urine. The specimen should be collected aseptically to avoid nosocomial infections and restricted to patients unable to produce a midstream specimen. Day(s) Test Set Up: Monday through Sunday

Instructions
This procedure should be performed aseptically to avoid inducing nosocomial infection. 1. Insert straight catheter and drain 1.0 mL of urine into a screw-capped, sterile container. 2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly. Note: Specimen type is required on request form for processing.
