Message
If culture is positive, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility will be performed at an additional charge. For diagnostic purposes, clinical specimens should be collected before the initiation of therapy since even a few days of treatment may render the culture negative. Instructions
1. Aseptically collect >5.0 mL of bronchoalveolar lavage or bronchial washings in a sterile leakproof container. 2. Avoid contaminating bronshoscope with tap water. 3. Saprophytic mycobacteria may produce false-positive culture or smear results.

Sterile leakproof container. Specimen source is required.

Conventional Culture and gram stain

Preliminary report after 24 hours


Clinical Significance
Useful for the detection of aerobic pathogens of the lower respiratory tract.
