Message
If positive, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility will be performed at an additionals charge. For diagnostic purposes, clinical specimens should be collected before the initiation of therapy since even a few days of treatment may render the culture negative. Preferred Specimen


Aspirate from the sinus. Swab specimens are acceptable, but not perferred.




Instructions
Aseptically collect a needle aspirate or swab from the sinus cavity.  Label the specimen with patient name, first & last, D.O.B., date and time of collection. Note Specimen source is required on request form for processing.


Transport Container
Sterile leakproof container or Green capped culture transport device


Transport Temperature
Refrigerate


Methodology
Conventional culture and gram stain

Clinical Significance
Useful for the detection of potential aerobic pathogens of the sinus.
