Clinical Significance
Lactate dehydrogenase is an enzyme present in the cytosol of all human cells; it catalyzes the reversibe reduction of pyruvate to lactate using nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH). The causes of increased LDH include neoplastic states, myocardial infarction, hypoxic cardio respiratory diseases, trauma, shock, and hypotension.
