Instructions
Draw blood in a grey-top (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride) tube. Spin down. Note patient should avoid exercise of the arm or hand before or during specimen draw.

Clinical Significance
Lactate is the end product of anaerobic glucose metabolism. Lactic acidosis usually results from overproduction or under utilization of lactate. Elevated levels are seen in circulatory collapse or cardiac failure.
