Helicobacter pylori - CLO Test®

Message
Day(s) Test Set Up: Monday through Sunday

Test Code
CLO

CPT Codes
87338

Instructions
1. Patient should not have taken antibiotics or bismuth salts several weeks prior to endoscopy. When these are used in suboptimal therapy, they can suppress but not eliminate Helicobacter pylori organisms. 2. Patient should not have received proton pump inhibitor omeprazole prior to test as this drug has been shown to have a bactericidal effect on the organism. 3. Because of the patchy nature of Helicobacter pylori infection, it is generally recommended that 2 specimens be obtained from each patient, 1 from the immediate prepyloric area and a second from the proximal antrum on the lesser curvature. Biopsies should be obtained from normal appearing mucosa as eroded or ulcerated mucosa may have fewer organisms. 4. Obtain a 2-3 mm diameter gastric mucosal biopsy. 5. After collection, place specimen immediately into gel of CLOTest® device. 6. Label device with patient’s full name, medical record number, date and actual time of collection. 7. Transport immediately to laboratory.
