Chlamydia Aptima

NOTE: If Trichomonas vaginalis is required, an additional specimen must be submitted. (See TVRQL for females and TVRQM for males).
For the Chlamydia Aptima test at SRH, the only acceptable sources are gential and urine specimens.
Other sources ( rectal, throat, NP eyes etc.) require a Chlamydia culture in VCM transport.
Upon request: possible assault cases, rectal, and throat can be tested at Quest using the Aptima Unisex swab.
MUST USE SPECIAL PROVIDED SWAB
Cervical: clean os with white swab and discard white swab
collect specimen with BLUE swab.
DO NOT USE A WOODEN SHAFTED SWAB
Transport to lab same day for best practice. See stability below.
THIS TEST IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THE DIAGNOSING OF CHLAMYDIAL AND GONORRHEAL INFECTION IN CASES OF SUSPECTED CHILD ABUSE. CULTURE IS THE ONLY RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE FOR SUCH CASES. See also rejection criteria below.
The analytical performance characteristics of this assay when used to test SurePath (R) and female urine specimens have been determined by the SRH Microbiology Laboratory.
