SurePath Method 2-  If using the Pap Perfect plastic spatula and Cytobrush Plus GT devices, insert the contoured end of the plastic spatula into the cervical os and rotate 360 degrees around the entire exocervix.  Immediately remove the spatula end of the device into the SurePath vial.  Next, insert the Cytobrush Plus brush into the endocervix and slowly rotate 1/4 to 1/2 turn in one direction.  Do not over-rotate.  Immediately remove the brush head and drop into the SurePath vial.

For Conventional Pap Smear:
An Endocervical brush sample is collected by inserting the endocervical brush into the endocervical canal and rotating 1/4 or 1/2 turn.  Roll the brush onto a glass slide and immediately spray with Surgipath spray fixative.
Endocervical Scrape sample is collected using a spatula and scraping the entire ectocervix with emphasis on the squamocolumnar junction.  Smear material onto a glass slide and immediately spray with Surgipath spray fixative.
An Endocervical broom sample is collected by inserting the broom into the endocervical canal and rotating 4 times. Smear one side of the broom onto a glass slide and repeat with the other side of the broom on a second slide and immediately spray with Surgipath spray fixative.
A vaginal smear is obtained by lightly scraping the posterior fornix with a spatula.  Spread material onto glass slide and immediately spray with Surgipath spray fixative.
