Preferred Specimen
- Urine-female (refrigerated urine must be transferred to the Urine Aptima within 24 hrs of collection)
- Endocervical swab- (Aptima Unisex vial with blue swab only)
Instructions
Female urine (acceptable): The patient should not have urinated for at least one hour prior to specimen collection. Patient to provide a first-catch urine (approximately 20-30 mL of the initial urine stream) into a urine collection cup free of any preservatives. Collection of larger volumes of urine may result in specimen dilution that may reduce test sensitivity. Patients should not cleanse the labial area prior to providing the specimen. Two (2) mL of urine specimen must be transferred into the Gen-Probe APTIMA Urine Transport Tube within 24 hours of collection and before being assayed. Urine specimens must be refrigerated pending transfer into APTIMA transport media.
