Coagulation work cannot be collected from arterial lines, unless specifically instructed to do so by the physician. If so instructed, document
this on the requisition or the labeled sample.
Draw from the opposite arm on a patient that is receiving a heparin drip. If it is absolutely necessary to draw the sample from the same arm(area) as the drip, the fluids must be turned off for 15 minutes prior to venipunture. Please document on the request or labeled sample.
