SRHC Clients:

Note special collection and transport requirements due to specimen stability.

Outreach/Outpatients:
 

  • 1 lime green top(preferred)  - place on ice and transport immediately following collection as sample MUST be received in laboratory within 20 minutes of collection for testing
  • If immediate transport is delayed or not possible:  centrifuge sample, remove and refrigerate plasma immediately (within 20 minutes of collection).  Transport to SRHC refrigerated in a transport tube marked "plasma". Transport with a frozen gel pack.  Sample stable for 2 hours refrigerated.

Inpatients:
 

  • 1 lime green top(preferred) - place on ice and transport to lab immediately as sample MUST be received in laboratory within 20 minutes of collection for testing

Instructions
Immediately following collection, place tube on ice and transport immediately to laboratory as sample MUST be received in laboratory within 20 minutes of collection for testing.

Transport Container

Plastic transport vial marked "plasma" if  sample was centrifuged and refrigated for transport. Transport on frozen gel pack.


Transport Temperature

On ice for immediate transport (within 20 minutes of collection)  to laboratory

Refrigerate centrifuged and aliquoted plasma if transport is delayed longer than 20 minutes. Stable 2 hours refrigerated.
 




Specimen Stability

On ice: 20 minutes

Refrigerated: 2 hours
