Inpatients:  1 lime green tube

Patient may be sent to SRH lab outpatient draw station for complete procedure to include administration of beverage.
Transport room temp <2 hours if cells and serum are not separated.
Transport room temp <8 hours if cells and serum are separated

Other Acceptable Specimens
1 lime green tube, 1 yellow tube or 1 red tube collected 1 hour after dosing of glucose


Instructions
  1. No fasting blood sugar is obtained.
  2. Have the patient drink 5 ounces of 100 gram glucose tolerance beverage.
  3. Collect one light green tube for blood glucose determination 1 hour after the administration of the glucose tolerance beverage.
  4. Send to SRH Lab for processing.

1 lime green tube, 1 yellow tube or 1 red tube collected 1 hour after dosing of glucose.

Clinical Significance
 The One Hour Glucola procedure is used to screen for gestational diabetes.  Screening should be performed between 24 and 48 weeks of gestation on all pregnant women not identified as having glucose intolerance.
