SRHC Clients:. 

SWABS are not acceptable; please send the actual fluid.  (Do NOT use red top vacutainer tubes as these contain a surfactant which may inhibit bacterial growth). Please transport in a sterile screw cap container (e.g. sterile urine container, blue screw top sterile container)
Joint/Synovial fluid: Transport to SRH lab room temperature ASAP for best practice.  Must be received in less than 24 hours.  DO NOT REFRIGERATE.
Pleural,Thoracentesis, Peritoneal Fluids,etc:  Transport to SRH lab at room temperature ASAP for best practice.

Preferred Specimen
Sterile container  (Do NOT use red top vacutainer tubes as these contain a surfactant which may inhibit bacterial growth).
Joint fluids:  minimum 1 ml in sterile container
Other fluids: preferred is 20 ml (min 1 ml) in sterile container


Instructions
DecoDecontaminate skin before aspirating fluid and let dry.


Transport Container

Specimen Stability
Transport to Lab ASAP at room temp.
