Specimen Type: Container: Serum: Red-top tube or gel-barrier tube; BAL: sterile screw-cap, leak proof container Storage: Storage: Serum - Refrigerate unopened for up to five days. Separated serum may be frozen at -70C. BAL - Refrigerate up to 24 hours. Frozen (-20C or colder) for up to 5 months. Refrigerated: Opened for 48 hours Frozen: 14 days Special Instructions: AVOID opening the specimen after collection. Do NOT aliquot (Package insert (PI) specifies transport in sealed tubes). The client must submit the patient’s Social Security number for serial monitoring. Specimen Collection: Collect specimen using aseptic technique.
