Instructions
Adult: Minimum 2.5 mL blood *Pediatric minimum: 1 full microtainer* Patients receiving N-acetylcysteine (NAC) may have acetaminophen results falsely depressed by greater than 10%. Results on individual patients may vary depending on NAC dose and initial acetaminophen concentration. The most accurate results of acetaminophen concentration are obtained prior to the administration of NAC. Patients not receiving NAC are not impacted.


Transport Temperature
Lab Only: It is recommended that tubes of blood are to be kept closed at all times and in a vertical position. It is required that the serum or plasma be physically separated from contact with cells within two hours from the time of collection. Separated samples may be stored for up to 8 hours at 20 to 25°C, at 2 to 8°C for up to 14 days and frozen at -20°C for up to 45 days. Stored specimens must be inspected for particulates. If present, mix and centrifuge the specimen to remove particulates prior to testing.
