Transport Temperature
Lab Only: It is recommended that tubes of blood are to be kept closed at all times and in a vertical position. It is required that the serum or plasma be physically separated from contact with cells within two hours from the time of collection. Separated specimens are stable for 2 days at 20 to 25°C, 7 days at 2 to 8°C, or 1 day at -20°C orcolder. Stored specimens must be inspected for particulates. If present, mix and centrifuge the specimen to remove particulates prior to testing. (Glucose in whole blood stored at room temperature is metabolized at a rate of approximately 5% per hour.)
