Instructions

Adult: Minimum 2.5 mL blood *Pediatric minimum: 1 full microtainer* Samples containing carbenicillin or piperacillin should be stored frozen if a delay in analysis of more than 8 hours is anticipated.

Transport Temperature

Lab Only: It is recommended that tubes of blood are to be kept closed at all times and in a vertical position. It is required that the serum or plasma be physically separated from contact with cells within two hours from the time of collection. When collecting in a Red Top Collection: Allow collection tube to stand for 1 hour before centrifugation. Analyze fresh specimens, if possible. Separated samples may be stored for up to 8 hours at 20 to 25°C,at 4 to 8°C for up to 7 days and frozen at -20°C for up to 14 days. Stored specimens must be inspected for particulates. If present, mix and centrifuge the specimen to remove.
