Instructions

A clean catch, catherized, or suprapubic urine specimen should be obtained in a sterile container. More accurate colony counts will be obtained from an early morning specimen or at least one that has remained in the bladder for three hours.

Transport Temperature

he specimen should be placed in a sterile container and transported to the laboratory as soon as possible after collection. If this is not possible place the urine in the refrigerator, but do not refrigerate the urine for more than 24 hours. The urine specimen can also be placed in a gray top tube and stored at room temperature for shipping.
