Instructions
Adult: Minimum 2.5 mL blood *Pediatric minimum: 1 full microtainer

Transport Temperature
It is recommended that tubes of blood are to be kept closed at all times and in a vertical position. It is required that the serum or plasma be physically separated from contact with cells within two hours from the time of collection. Analyze fresh specimens, if possible. Separated specimens are stable for 3 days at room temperature, and for up to 7 days at 4 to 8°C. If testing will be delayed more than 7 days, remove plasma or serum from the red blood cells, clot or separator gel. Specimens removed from the red blood cells, clot or separator gel may be stored and frozen at <= -10°C for > 7 days. To ensure consistency in results, specimens must be transferred to a centrifuge tube and centrifuged at > 10,000 RCF (Relative Centrifugal Force) for 10 minutes before testing if they are initially reactive and require retesting in duplicate, contain fibrin, red blood cells, or other particulate matter, or were frozen and thawed. No more than 5 freeze-thaw cycles should be performed on any sample prior to testing. The performance of this assay has not been established for individuals younger than 2 years of age. Nearly all infants born to HIV infected mothers passively acquire maternal antibody and, in some cases, will test antibody positive until age 18 months regardless of whether they are infected. Definitive diagnosis of HIV infection in early infancy requires other assays, including HIV nucleic acid tests or viral culture.
